Project Overview
A global precision optics manufacturer commissioned a complete exterior signage program for its new 35-hectare Industry 4.0 campus in Bavaria — comprising cleanroom fabrication halls, metrology laboratories, R&D centers, logistics warehouses, and a central energy plant. The signage had to meet stringent German industrial standards while reinforcing the company’s premium technology brand.
Scope
- Site identification: 8m wide illuminated pylon at main entrance with company logo and campus name — structural steel frame, push-through acrylic logo, RGB LED for shift/visitor color coding
- Building identification: 45 halo-lit aluminum composite letters (3mm brushed finish) on all production halls, labs, and administrative buildings — powder coated RAL 9006
- Hazardous zone delineation: 120 illuminated safety signs per DIN EN ISO 7010 / ASR A1.3 — laser hazard (Class 4), chemical storage, cleanroom airlock, high-voltage, and autonomous vehicle zones
- Emergency assembly signage: 35 illuminated assembly point markers with photoluminescent backup, integrated with campus fire alarm system for automatic illumination on alarm
- Logistics wayfinding: 25 vehicular directional signs for HGV routing, loading bay identification, and hazardous material transport corridors
- Cleanroom entry markers: IP69K rated illuminated frames for gowning area identification, resistant to hydrogen peroxide vapor decontamination cycles
Technical Specifications
- All exterior signs: IP69K rated (high-pressure, high-temperature wash-down), IK10 impact resistance
- Hazardous zone signs: photometric performance per DIN 67510, automatic self-test per EN 50172
- Fire alarm integration: dry contact relay activation, 3-hour battery backup per VDE 0108
- Materials: 316L stainless steel hardware, aluminum alloy EN AW-5754, UV-stable polycarbonate faces
- LED systems: 4000K CRI 90+ for accurate color rendering in safety signage, 100,000 hr L80
Result
TÜV Rheinland certification achieved for all safety signage categories. Zero non-conformances in initial audit. The shift-color-coded entrance pylon reduced unauthorized entry incidents by 41% in the first 6 months. Maintenance team reports 87% reduction in signage-related work orders compared to the previous facility. The single-specification approach across 200+ signs enables the central procurement team to reorder any component from original production files — critical for a 24/7/365 operation where signage downtime triggers safety compliance flags.
